Firstsitenews-Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has unveiled a 26-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Unity Cup in London, marking the return of veteran forward Ahmed Musa to international duty for the first time since January 2024.
Musa, who also reclaims the captain’s armband, leads a squad largely composed of fringe players and home-based talents, as several European-based regulars are being rested ahead of the crucial World Cup qualifiers.
Notably absent from the squad are key players such as Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Calvin Bassey, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi. In their stead, nine players from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) have been called up, offering them a rare opportunity to shine on the international stage.
Felix Agu of Werder Bremen has been included for training purposes, though he remains ineligible for match participation due to pending documentation issues.
The Unity Cup, scheduled to take place from May 26 to 31 at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium, will see Nigeria compete against Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad & Tobago. The Super Eagles will face Ghana on May 28 in their opening match.
Following the tournament, most of the NPFL players will return home, while several top international stars—including Boniface, Ola Aina, and William Troost-Ekong—are expected to rejoin the team for a friendly clash against Russia on June 6 in Moscow.
