A 16-year-old student, Olamide Aderibigbe, has drawn national attention after scoring an impressive 98 in Mathematics and a total of 336 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Olamide, a student at Starville International School in Jabi, Abuja, also earned 86 in Physics, 68 in English, and 84 in Economics. His exceptional performance places him among the top scorers in this year’s exam.
During the official presentation of the 2025 UTME statistics, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, revealed that only 12,414 of over 1.9 million candidates scored 300 and above, with just 4,756 attaining scores above 320.
In comparison, only 8,000 candidates crossed the 300-mark threshold in the 2024 UTME. This year’s results show that over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200—the commonly accepted average mark for admission consideration.
The UTME, with a maximum score of 400, requires all candidates to take the Use of English, along with three other subjects relevant to their chosen field of study.
Reacting to this year’s performance, Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the results are a testament to the government's efforts in curbing examination malpractice and improving standards.
Speaking to our correspondent on Saturday, Olamide’s father, Mr. Niran Aderibigbe, expressed gratitude to God for his son’s outstanding result. He added that Olamide aspires to study Architecture at either Covenant University or the University of Ibadan.
