Firstsitenews-Abuja, Nigeria The British government has officially opened applications for the 2025 Chevening Scholarship Programme, calling on aspiring leaders across Nigeria and beyond to apply between August 5 and October 7, 2025.
The Chevening Scholarships offer fully funded one-year master's degree opportunities at top UK universities. It is targeted at individuals who have demonstrated leadership potential and are committed to creating positive change in their home countries and across the globe.
According to a press statement from the British High Commission in Abuja, the Head of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) Scholarships Unit, Emma Hennessey, described Chevening as one of the most prestigious international scholarship programmes in the world.
“Chevening’s highly competitive selection process ensures that those chosen to become Scholars or Fellows are among the brightest and most driven individuals globally,” Hennessey said.
She further emphasized the transformative power of the scholarship:
“Chevening Alumni use their world-class UK education, global networks, and confidence gained during their studies to deliver meaningful and lasting change from addressing global challenges to improving their own communities.”
Hennessey encouraged potential applicants to highlight their leadership, influence, and networking abilities during the application process. She also advised those not yet ready to spend time building the experience necessary to be competitive.
Speaking on the significance of the programme, British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, described Chevening as more than just a scholarship:
