Breaking: Withdraws from PDP Reconciliation Efforts, Blames Makinde for Party Crisis

Firstsitenews-The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has formally withdrawn from all reconciliation efforts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing betrayal, dishonesty, and repeated violations of agreed resolutions by key party figures.

In a strongly worded statement released on Sunday, Wike traced the PDP’s ongoing internal crisis back to the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, lamenting what he described as a continuous erosion of trust among the party’s top stakeholders.

“Since the 2023 General Election, the PDP has been sliding from one crisis to another, rooted in dishonesty and a deep lack of trust,” the former Rivers State governor said. “Numerous efforts were made to address this destructive trend, but they have been met with treachery.”

Wike, a prominent member of the G5 group, placed the blame squarely on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, accusing him of derailing the peace process and being the main source of the party’s troubles.

“I told Governor Seyi Makinde plainly that he is the architect of our problems,” Wike said. “His failure to honour agreements has caused serious damage to the party, and he remains the chief culprit in this situation.”

He recalled a G5 meeting in Lagos where members agreed to reconcile and move forward. This was followed by a broader gathering in Abuja at Senator Bukola Saraki’s residence, which included Governors Bala Mohammed, Umaru Fintiri, Makinde, and Saraki himself.

According to Wike, the Abuja meeting produced key resolutions: the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary based on a Supreme Court judgment, the withdrawal of all PDP legal cases concerning Rivers State, and the discontinuation of discussions around a state of emergency in Rivers.

However, Wike said those agreements were blatantly disregarded even before the reconciliation committee led by Saraki could begin its work. He accused Makinde of colluding with Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah to convene a meeting of South-East leaders aimed at replacing Anyanwu with Ude Okoye as National Secretary.

He also alleged that party officials tried to sideline Anyanwu by illegally recognizing the Deputy National Secretary as Acting Secretary, who subsequently issued a letter to convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting—actions Wike said were “a clear breach of trust and agreements.”

Wike cited a recent example on May 24, 2025, when the party’s zonal congress in Jos failed because the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refused to attend, noting that the invitation was improperly signed by the Deputy National Secretary.

“This is both provocative and disappointing,” Wike said. “It is a clear demonstration of the betrayal and indiscipline plaguing the PDP.”

The minister concluded by reaffirming his decision to disengage from all reconciliation efforts, citing the futility of dialogue in the face of persistent bad faith.
