Just In: Fidelity Bank Reaffirms Dedication to UN Goal of Zero Hunger

Firstsitenews- Fidelity Bank Plc has restated its unwavering commitment to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2), which seeks to end hunger and ensure food security around the world.

The bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, made this known during the Food Bank Initiative Distribution held at the bank’s Head Office in Victoria Island, Lagos. Represented by her Executive Technical Assistant, Mr. Adebayo Adeyinka, Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe emphasized Fidelity Bank’s strategic role in combating hunger and promoting food security in its host communities.

“As a socially responsible organization, Fidelity Bank is deeply committed to carrying out Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives such as this,” she said. “Our mission remains to support individuals, empower businesses, and drive economic growth.”

She added, “Today’s outreach in Victoria Island, where our head office is located, is a gesture of appreciation to the community that hosts us. We are also grateful to our partners for their vital contributions in making this event possible.”

Dr. Onyeali-Ikpe recalled that the Food Bank Initiative was launched in April 2023 to support the well-being of vulnerable Nigerians. Since its inception, the initiative has delivered over 200,000 food packs across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, aiming to reduce poverty and malnutrition.

“These efforts directly contribute to the realization of SDG 2 – Zero Hunger,” she noted. “Through consistent outreach programs like this, we are doing our part to create lasting impact.”

She closed her remarks by reflecting on the deeper meaning of generosity: “As Anne Frank once said, ‘No one has ever become poor by giving, but many have become rich in kindness.’ When we share our table, we nourish more than just the body we feed hope.”

A beneficiary, Mrs. Victor Olubiyo, praised the bank for its humanitarian support. “I’m overwhelmed with joy. You can see the happiness on people’s faces. Fidelity Bank has given us a sense of belonging,” she said. “They have supported the helpless and are clearly complementing the Federal Government’s poverty alleviation efforts. I hope other banks follow their example.”
