Firstsitenews-MultiChoice Nigeria has announced a 50 per cent reduction in the price of its DStv decoder, cutting the cost from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000 in a strategic move to attract more subscribers and address dwindling user numbers.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, John Ugbe, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, describing it as part of the firm’s ongoing efforts to reward customer loyalty and enhance value for viewers.

“We want our customers to feel valued and enjoy the best in entertainment every single day. The ‘We Got You’ campaign is our way of making premium content more affordable and reinforcing that DStv is for everyone not just sports lovers,” Ugbe said.

He added that DStv is positioning itself as a daily entertainment companion by promoting a broad range of content beyond sports, including movies, drama series, children’s programming, and news.

“This means more channels, more exciting shows, and more reasons to watch every day,” he added.

As part of the ongoing promotion, MultiChoice is also offering customers a free upgrade to the next subscription package when they pay in full for their current plan between June 16 and July 31, 2025.

The company noted that both the decoder price reduction and the free upgrade initiative are part of its response to the challenging economic realities facing many Nigerians.

This intervention follows a significant loss of 1.4 million subscribers between March 2023 and March 2025.

It also comes on the heels of multiple price hikes within a 12-month period first in April 2023, followed by an increase in November 2023, and another implemented on May 1, 2024.
