Firstsitenews-Outspoken social media activist Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has sparked a heated debate across digital platforms after publicly criticizing prominent clergyman Pastor David Ibiyeomie of Salvation Ministries over a controversial miracle claim made during a recent sermon.
In the now-viral video circulating on social media, Pastor Ibiyeomie is seen declaring that God has granted him the supernatural power to make people “sleep and not wake up,” except by his own command. To prove this assertion, he instructs a young boy in the church to fall asleep — allegedly through divine influence — insisting that no one else can awaken the boy but him.
This display did not sit well with VDM, who took to his social media platforms to openly question the authenticity and spiritual integrity of the so-called miracle. He blasted the act as a manipulative stunt designed to create an illusion of divine authority and impress the congregation.
“What exactly did you do here?” VDM asked in his post. “This is nothing but a calculated performance — a false sign — aimed at glorifying yourself rather than God.”
Referencing 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10, VDM accused Pastor Ibiyeomie of behaving like the "lawless one" mentioned in the Bible — a figure who uses lying wonders and deceptive miracles to mislead the people. According to the activist, these kinds of displays are dangerous because they can distort people's faith, turning their focus away from God and placing it on the perceived mystical abilities of an individual.
“This is not a demonstration of faith; it’s spiritual manipulation,” VDM continued. “These tricks are misleading millions who are genuinely searching for God.”
VDM’s reaction has generated widespread reactions online. While some viewers agreed with his critique and expressed concern over what they called “performative Christianity,” others defended Pastor Ibiyeomie, arguing that he operates under divine anointing and should not be judged by social media influencers.
This incident adds to the growing scrutiny of modern-day religious practices in Nigeria, where concerns about the rise of stage-managed miracles and personality cults in churches continue to fuel public discourse.
As the conversation grows, VDM is standing firm in his stance, urging Nigerians to apply spiritual discernment and resist being swayed by dramatic spectacles lacking biblical foundation.
