The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled House of Representatives member for Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, Abdulmumin Jibrin, citing anti-party activities and failure to pay party dues.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the state chairman, Alhaji Hashim Dungurawa, during a press briefing in Kano.
According to Dungurawa, Jibrin’s expulsion followed his repeated public criticism of the party and its leadership, as well as his open alignment with political rivals of NNPP leader and former governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“Instead of dialogue, he chose to work against our interest by openly declaring loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” Dungurawa said.
The chairman also accused the lawmaker of neglecting his financial obligations to the party, vowing legal action to recover the arrears.
“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes. Payment of dues is constitutional, and he has consistently failed to comply,” he added.
Addressing speculations about Jibrin’s possible return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa dismissed fears it could weaken the NNPP, insisting that the Kwankwasiyya movement remained firmly united behind Kwankwaso.
Jibrin, who once served as Director-General of the Bola Tinubu Support Groups Management Council, defected from the APC to the NNPP in 2022, where he rode on the Kwankwasiyya platform to secure his House of Reps seat.
His expulsion further heightens political tensions in Kano as both the APC and NNPP reposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
