Retired naval officer and former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, Navy Captain Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade, has passed away at the age of 70.
Olubolade, who celebrated his 70th birthday on November 30, 2024, died on Sunday, May 11, in Apapa, Lagos. His death was confirmed in a joint statement by his first daughter, Oluwayemisi Akinadewo, and first son, Dayo Olubolade.
According to the statement, the retired naval officer, who also held ministerial roles as Minister of Special Duties, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, and Minister of Police Affairs, collapsed while playing lawn tennis.
“He drove himself to the sports facility that evening to play tennis and slumped during the game. Immediate efforts by medical personnel present to revive him were unsuccessful,” the statement read.
He was quickly taken to Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital in Apapa, where he was later confirmed dead.
