Firstsitenews- President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to distinguished educationist and former Nigerian ambassador to the Netherlands, Professor Mary Lar, on the occasion of her 90th birthday.
In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu lauded Prof. Lar’s pioneering role in education, diplomacy, and national development.
Born on May 15, 1935, in Langtang, Plateau State, Prof. Lar is highly regarded for her decades-long commitment to teaching and mentoring generations of Nigerian students. She began her career in government secondary schools and later transitioned to academia, becoming the first female professor from Northern Nigeria—an achievement that inspired countless others.
The President also recognized her diplomatic contributions as Nigeria’s ambassador to the Netherlands and acknowledged the supportive role she played during the tenure of her late husband, Solomon Lar, the first civilian governor of Plateau State.
Describing Prof. Lar as a “trailblazer and devoted nation-builder,” Tinubu praised her enduring influence on Nigeria’s educational and diplomatic landscapes.
He wished her continued good health, a long life, and expressed hope that she would remain a beacon of inspiration through her community service and mentorship.
