Tinubu Honoured with Lifetime African Achievement Award in Ghana

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been awarded the prestigious Lifetime African Achievement Award by the Millennium Excellence Foundation in Ghana. The honour was conferred during the foundation’s 25th anniversary celebration, held in Kumasi, where leaders from across the continent gathered to celebrate excellence in leadership, service, and innovation.

Represented by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the Foundation’s patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, for the invitation and the successful hosting of the event. He praised the Foundation’s commitment to recognising individuals who have significantly impacted Africa’s development and uplifted the continent's image globally.

In his remarks, Tinubu commended the visionaries behind the Millennium Excellence Foundation, stating, “It is no small feat to have honoured such illustrious Africans as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Prof. Wole Soyinka, President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Dr Mo Ibrahim. Their legacies continue to inspire generations.”

He called on African youth to rise courageously and contribute meaningfully to the continent’s progress in science, technology, education, governance, entrepreneurship, and the arts. Tinubu also urged African nations to unite in shaping a common destiny and highlighted the importance of investing in leadership and youth development.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to African unity and advancement, Tinubu praised the Foundation’s role in promoting integrity, service, and excellence across borders. “Since its inception in 1988, the Millennium Excellence Awards have remained a beacon of recognition for African trailblazers. Its mission deeply resonates with Nigeria’s aspirations and the shared vision of African nations,” he added.

Other awardees at the ceremony included Dr. Benedict Oramah, President of the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM), who received the Global Intra-African Trade Excellence Award; Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, honoured for Governance and Public Service; Alhaji AbdulSamad Rabiu, Chairman of BUA Group, who received the African Excellence in Business Award; and Mr. Dumo Lulu-Briggs, recognised for Traditional Leadership and Business Excellence.
