Suspected bandits have once again invaded Lataworo community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, sending residents fleeing for their lives.
This marks the second armed assault in the LGA within a single day. Sources told SaharaReporters that the attack threw the community into disarray, with villagers abandoning their homes in panic. The number of victims kidnapped during the incident could not be confirmed at the time of filing this report.
Lataworo has faced similar violence before. On June 30, suspected armed bandits launched coordinated raids on Gada, Lataworo, and Kokodoko villages in the same LGA, injuring several residents and local vigilantes.
The recent surge in violence has heightened tensions across Kwara North and South, both of which have been plagued by repeated terrorist attacks in recent months. The spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, has yet to release an official statement on the latest incident.
Earlier, SaharaReporters reported that suspected terrorists attacked Lema community in Edu LGA on Thursday, killing one person and abducting two others in the early hours of the day. Residents believe the attackers are still in the area and have called for urgent security intervention.
Kwara State has witnessed a disturbing increase in kidnappings and ransom demands, particularly in its northern and southern regions. On August 13, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that gunmen abducted four residents of Gamalegi village in Lafiagi Emirate, Kwara State, during a late-night raid at about 11 p.m. The attackers stormed the community, fired sporadically, and whisked away their victims into the bush without any resistance from security operatives.
The night before, armed men attacked Lade community, kidnapping three people. Days earlier, three residents, including a one-year-old child, were abducted in Gbale community.
In another incident four days ago, suspected bandits attacked Babanla community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, killing two people, including a police officer. The attack occurred while local vigilantes were holding a meeting. A video obtained by SaharaReporters showed the bodies of the police officer and another man lying in a pool of blood.
The escalating wave of abductions and killings has plunged many parts of Kwara State into fear, with residents repeatedly urging both the state and federal governments to deploy lasting and effective security measures to protect their communities.
