Firstsitenews-President Bola Tinubu has stated that Nigerians have no reason to live in poverty, reiterating his administration’s dedication to driving the growth of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) nationwide.
Speaking on Wednesday at the 8th Expanded National MSME Clinic in Calabar where he was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima Tinubu pointed to Nigeria’s abundant human and natural resources. He emphasized that Cross River State, in particular, possesses fertile land capable of supporting the cultivation of virtually every crop.
“The Federal Government plans to plant 100 million oil palm trees, more than any other state. Cross River holds a significant advantage,” Tinubu said.
He further outlined ongoing federal initiatives aimed at improving access to capital and creating an enabling environment for businesses. According to him, his government will support ventures that shape the future of work, skills, and industry. He praised the Cross River State Government for establishing a modern communications and technology hub for MSMEs, equipped with high-speed internet, advanced equipment, and collaborative workspaces for entrepreneurs.
“The digital space has room for the market woman in Ikom, the furniture maker in Calabar, and the fashion designer in Ogoja, Ugep, or Odukpani,” Tinubu noted. He stressed that the Renewed Hope Agenda goes beyond loans and grants, focusing on building a creative and well-supported business ecosystem with strong infrastructure.
Governor Bassey Otu described the MSME Clinic as a collaborative initiative between the Federal Government and Cross River State to stimulate entrepreneurship and boost the economy. He disclosed that the state’s Micro Finance and Enterprise Development Agency has trained over 3,500 entrepreneurs in essential business skills.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bank of Industry (BOI) in Cross River, Mr. Pius Neji, revealed that the bank has disbursed about ₦260 million to support rural businesses. He added that the state’s industrial capacity could play a major role in advancing Nigeria’s economic growth.
