A Nigerian man, Dan Bello, has taken a swipe at chef Hilda Baci over her plan to set a new world record by cooking the largest pot of jollof rice.

Hilda had earlier announced that the record-breaking event would take place on September 12, 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos State.

However, Bello criticized the initiative, arguing that while other countries prioritize celebrating breakthroughs in science and technology, Nigeria was focused on a food record.

His comments quickly drew reactions online:

John Nairda: “What does Dan Bello know about science? Who even produced the cap he’s wearing?”

Frederick Ojeifo: “You can also set a record in science and technology, and we’ll celebrate you. But for now, it’s Hilda’s moment in her profession.”

Mojibola Ibhaze: “Athletes who break records are celebrated, scholars with global achievements are celebrated—so why shouldn’t Hilda be celebrated? If you’re good at something, showcase it proudly for the world to see.”
