| Hilda Baci begins cooking in world largest jollof record attempt |
Renowned chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, on Friday launched her highly anticipated attempt to cook the world’s biggest pot of Nigerian jollof rice at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
The culinary challenge, which forms the highlight of the “Gino Jollof Festival”, is being staged in partnership with popular seasoning and culinary brand Gino. The event celebrates Nigeria’s rich food culture while showcasing Baci’s determination to push boundaries after her global feat in 2023, where she cooked for over 93 hours to clinch the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.
At the festival grounds, a custom-built cooking pot measuring six metres in width and six metres in height was unveiled. Into it, Baci is expected to cook about 250 bags of rice, enough to feed thousands of attendees and set a new milestone for Nigerian cuisine on the global stage.
Before Baci ignited the burners, the Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Centre, Bolaji Idowu, offered prayers and blessings for her success, setting a hopeful and celebratory tone for the historic undertaking.
The atmosphere at the venue was electrifying, with thousands of food lovers, Gen Zs, millennials, and celebrities thronging the grounds. Popular influencers including Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Tomike Adeoye, Folagade Banks, and Veekee James were also in attendance, lending their voices to the excitement and cheering Baci on as she embarked on the marathon cooking session.
According to the organisers, the festival has attracted over 20,000 registered participants, making it one of the largest food gatherings in recent Nigerian history. The event is free and open to the public, further fueling massive turnout and widespread interest both on-site and across social media platforms.
Speaking to the crowd, Baci reassured her supporters of a world-class culinary experience.
> “This jollof will not only be amazing, but also hygienic. We are making history together, and I promise it will be a record-breaking taste of Nigerian jollof rice,” she said.
The Gino Jollof Festival has quickly evolved into a carnival-like celebration, blending food, music, dance, and cultural pride. For many attendees, it is more than a record attempt—it is a reaffirmation of Nigeria’s culinary identity and global influence.
If successful, this record will cement Hilda Baci’s place as a global culinary icon, showcasing the versatility and resilience of Nigerian youth, while further spotlighting jollof rice as West Africa’s most celebrated dish.
