Firstsitenews-Nigerian singer and performer, Peter Okoye—popularly known as Mr. P and one half of the iconic music duo P-Square—has spoken candidly about the group’s latest breakup. In a recent interview with Cool FM Lagos, Peter expressed the challenges that led to the separation from his twin brother and music partner, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy).
Addressing fans and critics, Peter emphasized that the decision to go solo again wasn’t taken lightly. According to him, both brothers made genuine efforts to make their reunion work after their 2021 comeback, but things simply didn’t fall into place.
“There’s a certain joy and peace that comes with pursuing a solo career. We’ve tried to make it work as P-Square, but it just wasn’t working,” he stated. “All we ask is that people respect our decision. We gave it a shot, but it’s clear we’re better off following our individual paths.”
Peter acknowledged the nostalgia and emotional investment fans have in the P-Square brand but maintained that personal and creative growth sometimes require difficult choices.
“We’ve evolved, both as individuals and as artists. At some point, you need to recognize when something is no longer serving both parties positively,” he added.
This isn’t the first time the duo has parted ways. P-Square initially split in 2016 following internal family and business disagreements. Their surprise reunion in 2021 was met with excitement from fans worldwide, with many hopeful that the legendary group was back for good. However, in August 2023, Paul Okoye confirmed that the duo had once again gone their separate ways.
For Peter, this new chapter marks an opportunity for self-expression and creative freedom. “I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, but I’m also excited about the future. There’s so much more I want to do as Mr. P,” he said.
As both brothers now pursue their individual careers, fans are left with a catalogue of timeless hits and the hope that, even if not as a duo, each artist will continue to make a mark in the industry.
