IN PICTURES: Cultural Day Kicks Off the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards

 


The 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) officially began on Friday with the Cultural Day celebration, marking the commencement of several events leading up to the main Award Night on Saturday.


Guests dazzled in stunning traditional outfits, showcasing a vibrant fusion of African heritage and cinematic glamour. Among the celebrities who stood out were BBNaija stars Wanni x Handi, Fairme David, Saga, and Liquorose, along with Nollywood stars Mercy Aigbe, Adedimeji Lateef and his wife Mo Bimpe, media personality OAP Dotun, and many others.


Organized annually by MultiChoice, the AMVCA honours excellence in television, film, entertainment, and digital content across Nollywood and the broader African creative landscape. This year’s ceremony is being held in Lagos, Nigeria, and will be broadcast live across all Africa Magic channels.





The nominees for the 11th AMVCA were announced on Sunday, March 23. Categories include Best Writing in a TV Series, Best Documentary, Best MultiChoice Talent Factory Project, Best Scripted Series, Best Digital Content Creator, Best Unscripted M-Net Original, among others. Winners will be chosen through a combination of public votes and the decisions of a select judging panel.


The nominations span works released between January 1 and December 31, 2024. Leading the pack with multiple nominations are Lisabi: The Uprising, Skeleton Coast, House of Ga’a, and Freedom Way, all of which are strong contenders in key categories like Best Movie and Best Director.





In the performance categories, Gideon Okeke (Tokunbo), Stan Nze (Suspicion), Femi Adebayo (Seven Doors), and Adedimeji Lateef (Lisabi: The Uprising) were nominated for Best Lead Actor. For Best Lead Actress, nominees include Chioma Chukwuka (Seven Doors), Bimbo Ademoye (Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre), and Uche Montana (Thinline).
