The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a fresh clarification statement insisting that the sit-at-home scheduled for Monday, February 2, remains sacrosanct and will be fully observed across the South-East.
In the statement signed by Emma Powerful, IPOB’s Spokesperson and Secretary of the Directorate of Media and Publicity, the group dismissed what it described as “lies and falsehoods” circulating online regarding the leadership of the organization and the planned sit-at-home.
Powerful warned that individuals allegedly acting as government or ruling party agents while claiming to speak for IPOB would be exposed, insisting that attempts to undermine the directive would fail. He reiterated that the sit-at-home remains valid and binding on supporters of the movement.
Addressing internal leadership controversies, the statement claimed that Ifeanyi Ejiofor no longer represents IPOB or its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, alleging that Ejiofor was removed from his position over two years ago. The statement maintained that Ejiofor has no authority to issue directives or engage with IPOB affairs.
Powerful further alleged that certain individuals, including members of the Directorate of State (DOS), had contacted him in an attempt to stop him from issuing public statements highlighting Kanu’s continued detention. According to him, these efforts marked the beginning of what he described as a plot to hijack IPOB’s leadership and divert attention away from the group’s core objective.
The statement also accused some DOS members of compromising the movement by allegedly holding meetings with Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, claiming such engagements were aimed at weakening the solidarity shown by traders of the Onitsha Main Market toward Kanu.
Dismissing reports of his resignation, Powerful urged the public to disregard what he described as “fake and fabricated” claims circulating in his name. He challenged those questioning his legitimacy to explain recent communications he said they had with him.
“For the avoidance of doubt,” the statement added, alleging that Ejiofor recently contacted him to request the cancellation of the sit-at-home, a move he rejected, insisting that Ejiofor lacks the authority to make such demands.
Powerful further alleged that anti-Biafra elements had infiltrated online platforms using IPOB and DOS names to mislead the public, describing them as political actors opposed to Kanu’s release. He assured supporters that such individuals would be identified and exposed.
The IPOB spokesperson also announced plans to appear on radio, television, and other media platforms in the coming days to address the controversies surrounding the sit-at-home and internal disputes within the movement.
He concluded by urging Biafrans to ignore misinformation, remain vigilant against what he described as impostors, and comply fully with the Monday sit-at-home directive.
