Firstsitenews-President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday declared that his administration’s bold economic reforms have begun yielding positive results, restoring stability to Nigeria’s economy and enhancing the nation’s international reputation.
Speaking at the State House, Abuja, while receiving the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, Orumogege III, alongside other traditional rulers, Tinubu likened Nigeria’s economic turnaround to a patient brought back to life.
> “The bleeding has stopped. The haemorrhage is gone; the patient is alive,” the President said.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, and titled “In just two years, Nigeria is now respected globally,” Tinubu blamed years of neglect, corruption, smuggling, and falsified records for weakening the country’s economy. He noted that tough policy decisions, supported by citizens’ patience and perseverance, were necessary to put Nigeria back on track.
> “We had to take those actions. With your prayers, patience, perseverance, and great understanding, I am glad to tell you today that the economy is stabilised,” Tinubu added.
The President highlighted the creation of the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), stressing that no student should drop out of school due to poverty. He described education as the “greatest weapon against poverty,” and pledged continued investment in infrastructure development.
Oba Olaoye praised the President’s “bold decisions,” noting that the removal of fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms were already showing tangible benefits. He also commended the establishment of NELFUND, which he said had made education more accessible for students.
The monarch lauded the dualisation of the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road after decades of neglect, describing it as a key project that would boost economic activities and strengthen connectivity to the North. However, he appealed for presidential intervention in water supply, power infrastructure, and the upgrading of the town’s general hospital to a Federal Medical Centre. He also proposed the establishment of a research institute to transform Ogbomoso’s famed mangoes and cashew nuts into a viable agricultural enterprise.
Tinubu assured the traditional ruler that he would direct the Ministers of Power, Water Resources, Agriculture, and Works to review the requests, adding that such efforts would further enhance Nigeria’s drive for agricultural self-sufficiency.
The Soun also thanked the President for appointing indigenes of Ogbomoso to key positions, including Zacch Adedeji as Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service and Debo Adedokun as Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement.
Other monarchs on the Soun’s entourage included Oba Samuel Otolorin (Areago of Ogbomosoland), Oba Oyetunji Adeyeye (Alajaawa of Ajaawa), Oba Bolarinwa Olajide (Onisapa of Isapa), Oba Babatunde Amao (Aale Oke-elerin), and Oba Prof. Akinola John Akintola (Olokin-apa of Okin-apa). High chiefs and notable Ogbomoso leaders such as Ogundare Rebecca (Iyalode of Ogbomosoland), Prof. Sola Adepoju, Tunji Olaniyi, and Abdul Ganiyu Owodunni were also present.
The meeting was attended by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, who is also the Agbaakin of Ogbomosoland.
