The Indigenous People of Biafra has praised its newly inaugurated 4th Directorate of State (DOS) following what it described as a major diplomatic breakthrough during a high-level civil society engagement in Washington, D.C..
In a statement issued by IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, the group commended the leadership of the 4th DOS headed by Chris Nwaọgụ for advancing the movement’s global advocacy strategy and strengthening international engagement on the Biafra question.
According to the statement, the IPOB delegation participated in the Civil Society Presentation of the Cole-Moore Recommendations held in Washington, D.C., where discussions focused on security, justice, and human rights issues in Nigeria.
The delegation included Chris Nwaọgụ, IPOB’s United States Diplomatic Representative Mike Arnold, Dr. Green, and other officials representing the movement in the United States.
IPOB stated that the Washington event offered a strategic platform to present concerns regarding what it described as worsening humanitarian, security, and human rights challenges facing communities across Nigeria.
According to the group, the engagement allowed its representatives to present these concerns before policymakers, members of civil society, congressional stakeholders, and other influential participants.
The movement maintained that many of Nigeria’s challenges are rooted in structural issues and argued that self-determination remains the most peaceful, democratic, and sustainable path toward resolving long-standing political, ethnic, and security tensions.
Describing the Washington engagement as a major milestone, IPOB said the participation signals renewed momentum in its international advocacy campaign.
The group added that the event reflects a new phase in IPOB’s diplomatic outreach under the leadership structure recently inaugurated by detained leader Nnamdi Kanu.
According to the statement, the Washington engagement also demonstrates the capacity of the newly constituted 4th DOS to pursue one of its core mandates — expanding international awareness of the Biafra cause while rebuilding unity among IPOB members globally.
IPOB further acknowledged the efforts of supporters in the United States and across the diaspora, noting that their continued advocacy has played a major role in sustaining the movement’s international presence.
The group also used the opportunity to call for unity among members and supporters worldwide, urging them to rally behind the current leadership and remain committed to the movement’s objectives.
The latest development comes amid ongoing internal restructuring within Indigenous People of Biafra following recent leadership changes and reconciliation efforts.
The statement concluded by describing the Washington engagement as another significant step in IPOB’s international campaign, expressing optimism that its diplomatic efforts will continue gaining global recognition and support.
