The Indigenous People of Biafra has launched a major reconciliation initiative aimed at restoring unity among its members worldwide, declaring that internal divisions and factional disputes must come to an end.
In a statement issued on June 24, 2026, Gosife Chigozie Okekenta, Coordinator of Coordinators (COC) under the newly inaugurated 4th Administration of the Directorate of State (DOS), said the movement is entering a new phase focused on reconciliation, discipline, and organizational rebuilding.
According to Okekenta, the 4th DOS administration led by Chris Nwaọgụ is fully committed to restoring unity and strengthening IPOB’s global structure under the leadership of Nnamdi Kanu.
He stated that all IPOB leadership structures, including unit coordinators, zonal coordinators, national coordinators, and continental representatives, have been directed to actively engage in reconciliation efforts across all IPOB families worldwide.
The IPOB official called on members and affiliates who had distanced themselves from the movement to return and reunite under one structure.
According to him, the reconciliation process is open to all genuine supporters of the Biafra struggle, except for the ten individuals recently expelled by Nnamdi Kanu.
In a major declaration, Okekenta dismissed the existence of rival structures within the movement, insisting that IPOB remains the only legitimate platform for pursuing Biafran self-determination.
He specifically rejected the existence of what he described as “Autopilot” and any self-declared parallel government structure.
According to the statement, no individual or group has the authority to independently create a government outside the recognized structure of IPOB.
Okekenta emphasized that any future government of Biafra would emerge only through a democratic process involving the people.
“The Government of Biafra will be elected by the people of Biafra at the appropriate time. It cannot be created by individuals appointing themselves to offices from their homes,” the statement said.
He also urged members to move away from what he described as an atmosphere of suspicion, blackmail, propaganda, false accusations, gossip, and intimidation.
Instead, he called for renewed commitment to mutual respect, transparency, unity, and brotherhood.
Okekenta further advised members to rely on official IPOB communication channels and established chains of command when seeking clarification on sensitive organizational matters, warning against misinformation spread through social media and unofficial platforms.
Reaffirming the movement’s position, he described IPOB as a peaceful mass movement committed to self-determination and the collective aspirations of Biafrans worldwide.
He also called for continued support for the Eastern Security Network, stressing that security remains a critical component of the movement’s long-term objectives.
The reconciliation push marks another major development in the ongoing restructuring within Indigenous People of Biafra following the dissolution of the 3rd DOS administration and the establishment of a new leadership structure.
Observers say the success of the reconciliation initiative may play a crucial role in determining IPOB’s internal stability and future direction as the movement navigates both leadership challenges and its broader political objectives.
